my 1986 ford ranger 2.9 4x4 v6 is having high rpm. When i let go of the clutch and put it in gear it drives of by itself. I took the to intake manifold to change the injectors but i gave up halfway. Anyone know what it can be?

Does it have a high idle when you first turn it on? Does the idle speed change when the IAC is disconnected? Have you gone through your vacuum system to check for vacuum leaks?

Put it back to together. If you removed the upper plenum, get a new plenum gasket. If you reuse the old one, you will more than likely have a leak. IMO, RTVing the old one will leave a mess you won't want to clean up later. Injectors are likely not the problem.

And since you have an '86, you should consider pulling codes. Look under 'ECC-IV' diagnostics in the technical library. You will need to follow the test light / analog volt meter method as your truck was not equipped with a check engine light.
