high idle

I have a 1999 ford ranger with 165,000 mi 2.5 4cyl with a manual transmission. I have a problem with the engine reving when changing gears or when I press in the clutch.When i come to a stop the idle immediately returns to normal and idles fine doesn't do it all the time but most of the time any ideas?

could try cleaning the IAC.... round metal cylinder attached to back of throttle body with 2 small bolts with an electrical connector. go buy a gasket and some throttle body cleaner. clean it reinstall and see what happens.
