hi guys we're planning to install a high performance air filter in my bros. 3.0 we're planning on a kit offered on ebay, it has the adapter and the air filter, anyone here has done this, what are the mayor changes in your trucks?? we're doing it mostly to get a nicier sound whenhe revs up the engine
they say that the power response increases a bit, thats cool too.

what u have to say about this? anyone has done the same thing?
tell me how u feel your truck after doing it
thanks:icon_thumby:

after installing a homemade intake kit and conical filter on my 3.0 yrs ago i can tell you all it does is add noise, you can remove the baffle from the lower airbox and it does the same thing. your air filter element is the same size as a 4.0, no restriction or added power to be made there. money is better spent on underdrive pulleys regearing or 1.7 roller rockers.

oo i see, well the idea is to get some troathy noise we'll see if removing the baffle helps

yeah, but why some people claim they have some improvements in power, i know that a filter wont give me 10hp, but in my prev car i did feel the improvement, it felt like the throttle response was better, also the companies that fabricate and sell this stuff say it improves the engine response

and they should all be sued for false advertisement. my fiances 4.3 v6 in her chevy pickup seen a hellacious throttle response improvement w/ just a conical filter, reason being the trk breathes thru the quarterpanel into a 1 inch by 5 inch hole in the airbox. the ford ranger has a 3 inch hole in the bottom of the airbox that allows more than enuff air to flow in, plus its pushed in under the headlight, ram air if you will.

Install a K&N Drop in replacement washable filter.
It's about $45.00 to $50.00 and the cold air system is already supplied by your stock Ford set up.
Want more noise?
Remove the baffle.

agreed with what was said. I put in the k&n filter, no noticable gains. I also removed the baffle, it sounds great...but no hp gains unless you follow the more noise more power philosophy. haha, in that case it adds 10 hp.

how do i remove the baffle?? ion the 99 and 2000 rangers , i really wont be spending cash in the filter, cuz with the shippings and the % the store charges me for bringin tha is for almost 50 dollars for a cheap ass ebay filter and adapter, also im not sure if it will stop all the dust from eating my piston rings as my mec says it will (it happened in my tercel)

It took me a while to figure it out on my truck. You have to remove the air filter and in the bottom left corner of the air box will be the baffle, it a weird looking tube-like piece. All you do is yank on the thing till it comes loose. I had to lift up and pull on mine to get it out. Good luck.

oo i see, i thought that piece may be the baffle, but didnt tryied to take it out, isnt that part that helps to direct the air flow?, coming to the filter?, the hole thing is the baffle or its inside of it? and did it became louder even with oem filter?? i need to be sure of everything lol!!, nice work for tomorrow!!

thanks ranger rocker

did u feel any diference in the engine besides noise when u did this?? i was reading about a 93 or older ranger that claims it helped a bit in power

I yanked the whole thing out. That's what I read online, haha. I also pulled out a rubber box type thing from the driver side headlight, part of the silencer I guess. I know everyone will give me crap for this but I noticed a little power increase, probably because it's one less piece before the air enters the engine. That plus the k&n seemed to give me a little power bump. One thing is for sure though. I went from 16.6mpg to 18.8mpg after ripping out the stupid thing...and I have 4.10s! That's worth it in my opinion.

oo i see, well im gonna rape my trucks intake today, :icon_twisted::icon_twisted: so im gonna post what i came with and maybe some pics :icon_idea: so other people know what we're talknig about here
thanks man!:icon_thumby: im gonna take out the head light to work better
i really like the mpg improvement u say:shok:

I got the nice shiny SS intake tube with the cool looking cone shaped filter and it looks like its hauling ass just sitting there.

The benefits pretty much stop right there. I got no power gain that I could tell, but did make a little more growl.

The only thing I purchased for performance that actually worked was a programmed module for torque for towing. Helped alot actually especially with the shifting points. Can't remember the brand off hand. I chose to go with the torque tune using 93 oct gas. Now why I chose 93 oct gas is beyond me. Seemed like a good idea at the time......:icon_rofl:.

The DZK pulley seemed to help my fuel mileage some, but can't say I felt much power gain though.

If you guys want a cool looking intake under the hood go for it. If you guys are looking for performance, don't waste your money like me!

Alrighty man, sounds good to me. Some pics would definitely help. Maybe you could throw into the tech section... haha. Well good luck. I am working till midnight 30 tonight so I probably won't get back to ya till tomorrow.
