hideous x-member had to go

the frame on the gen3 is boxed, it looks like it has 2 bolts in back but the front i asume is welded, kinda hard to see, i only got one crappy light in my messy garage, i just moved in december. so youd have to drill 2 holes for the front and try and get a nut on the back which would be hard on the boxed frame, but you could make it work

do you evan ned that thing on there...i am thinking of just taking it off..my gen 1 and does not have that stupid thing..

Nor does my gen 2, looks to be there just protect the steering box/ pitman arm

im sure you COULD remove it...but crossmembers add support and strength, which is never a bad thing.

The older 2wds all had them because the pitman arm was so low to the ground. I have no idea why some 4x4s had them and some didn't. Maybe it has to do with the option package.

I'll never take mine off. I put my truck in the ditch the first time I ever drove in bad snow. Slid in and hit a culvert. Bent that crossmember and busted one of the welds on it. If it weren't there I would have screwed up my steering.

ya so was mine, it was welded to the drivers framerail on the front of it, so i just bent it back and rewelded it.

my 96 has one, its really never bugged me enough to remove it, like sludge said xmembers are there for strength and support, so y'know, i took the plastic valence off the bumper and now its just BAM HERE I AM, i've never noticed it before i took the valence off hehe but then again, the bumper is eventually going to be taken off and turfed because its bent up pretty nicely, and i want a winch.
