I know I could post this in the Fabrication thread but not all of us view that thread a lot.
I posted some photos late last year about my idea to mount my high lift jack on the rear receiver. I have the front receiver but don't want to drive around catching the wind with the jack mounted up front all the time.

So I had a Hi Lift jack mount made for my receiver and some of you guys said it should be a bit higher. So I had another one made up and it is almost done. It will get powder coated and should get it back by early next week. Here is the old style mounted to the hitch:

With the hitch mount on my Ranger:

Here is the new one being made. It should give me a lot more elevation and bring up the lift to the middle
of the bumper and that should be just fine. It has gussets added to make it stronger to support the jack:

When I get it back I will mount the jack and see how it came out. I should get a bit more clearance for sure. A lot of my buddies have said it was fine as it was..but some of you said it could be a bit higher for clearance!!!!

That looks really good! Great idea.....I was wondering where to securely stow one for my truck, when I get another jack. I'm guessing the comments about it being too low were targeting the departure angle of the truck.

The only thing I would be worried about is it blocking my license plate and that attracting some unwanted attention....

Otherwise, that looks pretty gosh darn sexy. Never thought of a hitch-mount for a jack.

I'll post some photos of it when it comes in. I do hope I did the right measurements with it to not interfere with the license plate. I was trying to think this all the way through...can't turn back now!!!! lol

i still think they are better off in the bed or somewhere in a little less of the elements. the stuff slinging off the rear tires...
i guess jeepers use theirs on front bumpers and all so why not! lol

still a nice idea if you want it there... but what about when hauling something? maybe make one that has the mount and a ball??? lol

looks good cat! another idea is like I had done...

just some bolts and scrap welded together, and made some bigger plates for the back side to sandwich the bed. It was strong enough for me to stand on.

i'm with you 4.0, i plan on mounting mine on my tire carrier

and wing nuts to secure it? you're just inviting someone to snag it

That does look great. I thought about that too, but don't want to drill any holes in the bed...but I am still thinking about it. I have one of those mounting kits a friend gave me three years ago.....so I am slow?? lol

Not to worry, Bro...both of those mounts I showed have a hole to put a heavy duty pad lock on it!! I drove it for 150 miles with it on the hitch after I installed it last September. It was very solidy mounted. No noise or vibration either!!

I've got a Delta toolbox on mine, so can't do the front-of-bed mount. But, that gives me an idea to fab some mount points that attach to the toolbox. The one on my CJ-7 is bolted to the top of the swing-out tire rack, and there's a piece of chain welded to the rack that locks to the jack. I've also fabbed jack-mounts that attach to the hood hinges on Jeeps; work pretty good cuz they use the hinge bolts to mount with.

Well, I got rid of my military style trailer just before last Christmas, so I won't be hauling anything any more. At first I thought about having a ball added, then changed my mind. But you have a great point there, Bro!!!

i've seen them mounted to the top of tool boxes, if you can still have the room to open it.

Today I saw a shiny yellow TJ with a well detailed high lift bolted right in the middle of the hood.Am I the only one that thinks this is idiotic? To me this equates setting your toilet in the middle of a doorway. Oh well to each there own I guess.

Hood mount is handy (though not particularly attractive to many). Remember also that the classic Jeep/Wrangler body doesn't have a lot of room inside or other flat-panel space. On the hood, usually, the jack is easy enough to get to when you need it (if you're burried up past the hood, a highlift may not cut it) -- Mounting to the hood does require some thought, as the mounts will wanna be string enough not to launch the jack into your windshield/face or the rear-window of the car you hit :)

Just sayin...
... not a fan, but it's understandible.
