For a 95 2wd auto 2.3 please tell me things to look for and check duo I don't get a lemon:-) in Dallas, TX

This is all seems obvious but i will write it anyway because i have met people who base eveything off the shape the body is in and end up needing a transmission. Just compare it to what you are thinking of trading for it. Which is better. Does the engine sound good idleing, and while driving. transmission still shift smoothly, what ever feels/sounds off, decide if it would be worth it to fix. If you think your vehicle is better but you'd still like to have the ranger, ask for boot to even up the trade. Oh and Look underneath it to see if the frame is rusted out.

Welcome to the Site !

Well All the Above things and Maybe possibly a Car-fax report Or some kind of Vin check to see if it's been in any major accidents or Similar If your worried about that , It depend's on what you know about vehicle's and how the vehicle work's that your trying to get as well , It Also depends on your plan's for the vehicle as well , Modifications and or Just Routine Maintenance and Proper Working order , Good luck with your Choice !

I'm trading my 82 Chevy truck.nee engine and lots of new parts. The ranger is said to have 190k on it is that to high?

That's high but the truck is about 17 years old. I have a 2005 with 130,000 miles on it. Manitance work, no major problems so far.

I'd the compression is good I'll save for a new head assembly

There are a lot of things you could do if you really need a good vehicle.
We are talking an old truck, as stated above if it sounds good and everything works then it will probably be ok.

The 2.3L IMHO is a good engine, not a power house but good reliable engine.

The rear spring hangers always rust out on the Rangers you might check them too.

I'm trading for better mpgs... And staying American made while trading:-) how it doesn't turn our to b a turd

Should be ok.

Check the engine oil, is it clean, has been changed recently ?
If auto, check the trans fluid too, smell it !

Good luck with it, mine was a great truck.

Well I test drove a 98 today and liked the way it drove and handled.these things do lack power a little, but make up for it in mpgs. It was a 5 speed 4 cylinder. I have one more to check out next weekend, Burr its an auto 4 cylinder

The auto-tragic transmissions in the pre-96 trucks have issues.

Thanks for the heads up the 95 sounds like it has issues anyhow.

Help! Please read! So I wrecked my 82 Chevy today:-( someone pulled out in front of me.just need a bumper grill a and driver fender. The guy with the 5 speed is out of of course, but strongly the guy with the auto Trans is still in.
how does this conversation sound
Me: Any transmission issues?

Him: No but some times it kicks switching into second gear but only when getting on the highway from a side road where u have to push the gas peddle down pretty good...

Him: But its a soft kick and that's going to happen for the year and how many miles it has but i mean it does not do anything to the driving i think

Me: Ok how long have you had the truck and who had it bfor you? Was it a gift?
