Hi everyone, my name is moe, never owned a ranger but lately since my car died ive been looking at them, what ive found is theres an 01 Ranger 4 cyl 2.3l, 5 speed for sale near me, it has 236k miles on it, guy wants a thousand says underneath is not rotted but has surface rust. its 2wd btw which is nothing new to me (have owned 2 mustangs) . Is it worth the $$?any help would be appreciated.
thank you guys!

I have a 91 with a 2.3 and it only had 100k miles on it when I bought it I paid 900 for mine and it has 136k miles on it and my timing belt quit spinning. Its all in how you take care of those trucks. I would maybe check bluebook

Moe - The 2.3 engine is a good engine but thats alot of miles. Lots of problems possible. I would hesitate because there are others out there with less miles. I just sold my 02 Ranger 4.0L 4x4 auto with 120K miles for 2500. If you gotta have it look it over super good so you know what your getting.

Ranger

Moe if its a 2.3L then its a late 2001 with the dura junk engine, early 2001 down to 1998 came with 2.5L iron lima engine, pass on it, 97 and down had 2.3 till you get down in to the early 80's 2.0

Hmm that's weird I read nothing but good things about the duratech... What are some issues with it ?

Hi sorry again guys, the 01 never fell through although it was solid... So instead I found a '99 2.5l 5 speed ranger 2wd how good and dependable are those
Thanks

moe I have the same they are good but they have there problems like any other, some are clunking from diff, drive shaft or yoke, if the heater core leaks ITS A REAL Pain to change, they ride nice, if really well taken care of they tend to last, the spark plugs are a pain in the butt to change, be sure and check the frame for rust all over if your in the salt belt, just go over every thing ,

Thank you road angels, are the motors a 200k+ motor without major issues ? I'm just looking for something I can throw stuff in the bed and drive daily without spending too much in repairs, as a college student I can't really afford much to be honest
