Hey Ford, Your competitor did an about face!

I totally agree with this. I believe it is dead-on accurate. Ford wants to have the best selling pickup in the United States and doesn't want its own models to detract from that, no matter what people really want; and Ford can save money to boot by only offering full size pickups. Just like Henry Ford did with the Model T; you can have a pickup in any size you want, as long as it's fullsize.

i think something much more important than the best selling pickup in the united states, would be the best selling brand world wide...

the f-series is the "best selling vehicle in the united states for 24 years" and the "best selling truck in the united states for 34 years"

it also has titles for north america, and worldwide sales, though i can't quote them as i don't know the number of years... the f-150 has been credited with half of ford's total income in the last few years.

the f-150 has earned it's keep, lets make another model famous! ford owns the fullsize market in north america, here in canada ford owns the market for full size trucks also... and i think toyota owns the midsize market...

Been a year or two since I last checked but lets see if I can get these facts out of my intoxicated mind.

Toyota finally beat out GM as overall best selling manufacturer in US. Toyota Tacoma finally beat out Ranger in sales and Camry is best selling vehicle in US.

I'm pretty sure they're still mostly valid.

I also remember the Ranger outselling the Mustang last year.

i grabbed those numbers and figures as quoted, from wiki, they didn't specify if the 24 years was still continuing or not

the facts i remember from long ago, but wanted to confirm them

Just not in the Colorado. I think the 5.3 has been around in one form or another since the 70s. It's a 320-something CID I believe, and was offered in Nova and Chevelle platforms, between the 307 and 350.

I know it shows up in the CSB rebuild version of Haynes Techbook.

327 you mean?

Correct!

5.3L in size only. The 327 and all pre 96 small block Chevy's started as the 265 v8 in 1955 and changed little in all that time. Once fuel injection came along the engine codes changed (ex L code 350 to a K code 350) In 97 the 350's heads were redesigned (working toward the current generation ) and it became the R code 5.7L. In 99 with the demise of the C1500 - C3500 Chevy introduced the Silverado. It came with the standard 4.3L V6 and the new generation 4.8L and the 5.3L. The bigger 6.0L debuted in 2002.

If you read the article the new Colorado / Canyon will be a unibody but the design will allow all the capacity and power of a frame on body. The truck will have options from 4 cylinders to V6's to diesels and possibly V8's. The idea of a 4,000 lb truck with 300 hp and 400 ft lbs of torque out of a diesel and get 30 plus MPG?

The technology is there right now to have a unibody do everything (in stock form as far as we know) that our Rangers can do. As for modifying there isn't enough info available.

I didn't start this thread to get us riled up. I was hoping that enough interest would get something going and let Ford know we want a Ranger. I'm not thrilled with the global. It's ........too foreign looking? Rangers have always followed the design of the F series. I think there's a few photo shoppers (Hazmat) that could mod up an F150 looking Ranger. It could have all the stuff the global has but an all "North American" look.

Fire it up Guys. Post up and let me hear what you think!

if the ranger goes unibody, i will not buy, plain and simple... IMO, trucks need a frame...

i've seen quite a few newer rangers, with the chrime h bar grill lifted that look just like super dutys to me, it takes a few seconds to figure out which is which actually...

Give me a 2010 ranger with an Eco-boost engine and I will give you a 4x4 truck with mid to high 30 mpgs as well as a truck that will eat a V6 camaro to boot :icon_surprised: :yahoo:
SVT

this! :headbang:

so 4 door, eco boost (or i'd be okay with diesel), 4 door, and solid axles!!! lol. now i'm really dreaming..

here's what i want in a new ranger, which is much the same as 4.0b2's

full frame, 4 door, new more powerful AND more efficient motor, and hopefully a higher tow rating

SFA would be nice, but it's unlikely, nor is it NECESSARY, but it sure would be nice...

thanks for the rep, btw! :)

huh... I just lookied it up f150 is at the top of the list 08,09,10 so it looks like the article I saw was wrong about the F150 falling behind for a couple years.

Yep, I searched for a top 10 list for 2010 but couldn't find one. I know in 09 the Camry was 2nd behind the F-150. :icon_thumby:

The F-150 is actually the best selling vehicle in the US, followed by the Camry. :icon_thumby:

Good to know! I wonder if I had looked up a list of only top selling cars or if my memory really is that bad

I also remember the Ranger outselling the Mustang last year.

2010 was a tough year for the Mustang. All engines were getting 100 more hp the next year along with 6spd transmissions, a lot of people waited for that (and it was worth the wait IMO). Then they had a short production year to boot with the 11's were rolling out in March or April of 2010. They were practically giving away the '10's to make room for the '11's... which are still hard to get ahold of, they don't sit on the lot long.

The 2010 Mustang didn't really get a fair shake, also the first time in I think 24 years the Camaro outsold it.
