Hey Ford, Your competitor did an about face!

I'm assuming by this comment that GM also had plans to kill the Colorado? Maybe this will fuel the Ranger fire back up. Is there a damn petition somewhere? I wanna sign it if there is. Much like when the 89 Probe was going to be the new Mustang. Ford listened! We ought to try at least.

the colorado/canyon is slated for the trash as of 2012 model year... i highly doubt they will see the global version...

sad thing is, they now put 350's (or what ever it's newer replacement is) into the colarados/canyons.

the ranger is a great truck, but it's lack of attention is what is killing it and the small truck market... if there was more work put into it by ford, like forinstance a new powertrain, the SOHC, which is the best you can get right now, has been in our trucks for about 10 years now! we need a new motor!!! a new motor, a new generation, i think a full re-model, including new body, and attention from ford would help the public look at it as more than a forgotten model... no more of this cutting the fx4 level II's... i woulda bought a brand new truck instead of the one i have, but 07 was the last year they made the LII's...

or hey, even easier BRING THE GLOBAL RANGER AND IT'S MOTORS HERE!!!!!

GM hasn't used a 350 in anything they build in a few years.

We have a Canyon at work and the interior reminds me of a late 90's Blazer. The push button 4x4 looks like they took it off a parts surplus shelf of stuff they didn't use in a Blazer.

... I personally don't see spending twice as much for a compareable larger truck when the small one fufills all my needs and space issues.

Space is a huge reason why I chose a Ranger. I simply cannot fit an F-150 where I park my Ranger. I really hope Ford reconsiders.

I asked earlier, but didn't see a response. Is there a petition to save the Ranger?

2009's had an available 5.3L V8. Not a 350 (5.7) but kind of the same idea.

Well..Maybe it'll make ford build another mini truck. I'm not holding my breath though.

I just don't get why the mini truck is getting canned by every manufacturer. I know the full sizes are getting better mileage now but I just don't really want a tank of a truck.

They could very easily drop the 3.7 mustang engine into the ranger. It gets 31mpg in the mustang and I would expect something similar from the lighter ranger

Ah hah, see! It could be done...damn lazy ford :D

The F150 also has the 3.7 and gets 16/23 mpg (city/highway).

In a truck that is much larger and heavier than the ranger. I'm pretty sure the ranger weighs a little less than the mustang

yeah maybe that's it... i don't pay attention to chevy, they're the annoying kid that sits behind you on the plane... you ignore it as much as possible, but sadly, they're still freaking there!

this is why i have my ranger... kinda... i have no use for a truck, the only reason i bought a truck was because i wanted a 4x4... if they made the focus with 4x4, i woulda bought one of them! a ranger is the most car like ford that has 4x4...

as far as the fuel economy in the rangers, this is only due to neglect... you put a new motor in one, even if you offered the f-150 motor lineup in the ranger, it would revitalize the market! Ford is pushing people away from the ranger by offering a bigger truck, with better fuel economy...

I totally agree with this. I believe it is dead-on accurate. Ford wants to have the best selling pickup in the United States and doesn't want its own models to detract from that, no matter what people really want; and Ford can save money to boot by only offering full size pickups. Just like Henry Ford did with the Model T; you can have a pickup in any size you want, as long as it's fullsize.

Give me a 2010 ranger with an Eco-boost engine and I will give you a 4x4 truck with mid to high 30 mpgs as well as a truck that will eat a V6 camaro to boot :icon_surprised: :yahoo:

GM has been using the 5.3 longer than that.

Just not in the Colorado. I think the 5.3 has been around in one form or another since the 70s. It's a 320-something CID I believe, and was offered in Nova and Chevelle platforms, between the 307 and 350.

I know it shows up in the CSB rebuild version of Haynes Techbook.

327 you mean?
