The coolant flow was changed in the 3.8 for front wheel drive applications and all hell broke loose, we had practically no trouble with 3.8's in F100's, Mustangs, T birds, and down sized(fox body) LTD's.
Those 3.8L powered F100s were a real treat....
My buddy had a Dakota V8 and yea they hauled ass! But the truck was a P.O.S otherwise.... I couldn't believe they stuffed a v8 in a small truck, why couldn't Ford do that to the ranger? Imagine how awesome a production ranger 5.0 or 4.6 would be. I can't do any ranger v8 swap due to CA emissions
... Maybe they can stuff a coyote v8 into the new ranger as an svt model, Id immediately buy one.
