My credo
If you can't go through it or around it, then go over it.
I am buying a new car maybe. I was wondering if you guys new anything about the Focus with the 1.0l ecoboost w/ 6spd manual?

I am rather impressed with my 2008 Focus but it feels under powered with the automatic. I can't afford a base model mustang but I still want quick and peppy.

Other cars I am considering
Fiat sport
Mini Cooper s
Toyota Carolla
Dodge Dart II turbo

The 1.0 sucks at low speed. I have driven a few of them, and they are fine once you get the turbo going. Taking off from a stop sucks, I always have the clutch chattering and shuddering. I don't have that issue with the 2.0, or even the 1.6 Fiestas.

I'd get a regular 2.0 Focus with a stick.

My son just bought a used 2012 VW GTI for a good deal, around 17k. That little thing has a bunch of pep and hits boost quick with no hesitation. Just throwing that out there. I got fords out parked all over my driveway lol.

Read up (Consumer Reports??) on the Fiats and I think you will stay far, far away.

Just look at the power(HP/Torque) to weight ratio of the vehicles you are interested in.

Lighter car with 140hp engine will be quicker than heavier car with 140hp engine, but heavier car will have a nicer ride, in most cases, lol.

Turbos are "quick" once RPMs are up, but there is "no replacement for displacement" from a standing start

I haven't driven any of them yet, I was just wondering if it was mechanically sound. I like the Volkswagen, but they aren't willing to deal on a new car. And I want brand new, my last brand new car was a 2004 Neon SRT/4, otherwise I would just go buy a 2013 V6 Mustang. I don't have credit to finance and my local dealership will sell me the Focus at cost. I have a 2.0l Focus.... It's impressive if it wasn't for the automatic... They have a 2015 Focus ST... What's the difference in performance from the non ST to the ST?

The ST is nice. The ST is turbo 2.0L. It's not the RS, but it is still kick-ass.

The trick is to have enough displacement to still not require the turbo. My 2.0T Eclipse wasn't still a pretty spry car if you stayed under the turbo.

But now they are chasing the optimal mpg ratings and don't really care IMO.

I have a 2012 focus 2.0 that will get up and scoot with the 6 speed auto. They worked out the bugs with the 1-2 shift issue but if you shift manually you lose the hesitation off the line it shifts into second real fast in auto mode. I can walk over most any mountain pass in 5th. Averaged 35mpg doing a loop Washington-Montana-south Texas-California-Washington hwy and city.
