hesitation and other problems

i've got an '87 and when you start pushing the gas pedal down it bogs down a little almost like when you flood a carb (mine is FI) only does it for a second or two then takes off like if you mashed it. i know there is probs in the instrument pannel(fuel and temp gages) but i'm thinking thats a different problem, also wont go down into 1 (automatic tranny) and pops up into the main OD gear when it shifts if you drive it in 2 or D, my main concern is the hesitation though any help?

Your catalytic converter might be clogged? A friend of mine spent alot of money and time changing parts trying to solve a hesitation
problem. Problem was clogged catalytic converter.
