my little brother has an 87 bronco 2 that died the other day. it has the 2.9 in it. we got to looking at it the other day and found that its not getting fuel. the fuel pumps are not working when you turn the kep. we checked the relay but it works but is not getting power. and when the relay is triggered the pumps start working but it still does not start?

is there a fuse somewhere that controls the fuel pumps/relay under the dash? i found one fuse box but there is no fuse that is marked fuel pump. i have a manual which i was looking through and it says there is one somewhere i just cant find it any word?

can someone throw there input in? i havent checked to see if its getting a spark yet that was the next step but we are leaning towards the ecm being bad? i would like to do some more trouble shooting before we spend the money on one though.

PLESE HELP
thanks

-3- things spring to mind
1- is a inline fuse near the battery under the hood
2 -is the inertia switch...this is resettable...white button on the top...push it down....located inside the cab, passenger side, near where ones left foot would be if sitting in the seat.

3- test the TFI or ingition module on the distributor housing

so what happened it died on my brother he pushed the switch after finding out about it online. it started right up. he drove it from his friends house to mine and about a block away from mine it died again and when we pushed the switch it wouldnt work.

i did not see the fusable link near the battery i actually didnt know where it was i couldnt find any fuses that were marked fuel pump either so i will check the link in the next day or so.

i will check to see if the engine has spark he said it did when he checked it the first time. as soon as he brings me a key or decides to try to fix his own truck.

is the link easy to see? i mean is it easy to figure out it goes to the fuel pumps? we jumped the relay and its working just didnt have power going to it.

once we bypassed the relay with a hot wire it wouldnt start either. the fuel pumps then kicked in and were working. of course it was barely turning over because the batter was dying by this point. would one of the filters near the intake be clogged and keep it from running?

It won't be labeled or anything (inline fuse) ...generally just a little bulge in the wire. Probe the wire from the battery to the relays, if there is a inline fuse you suddenly get no power and a previous owner/repair may have already deleted it...IDK and no fuses marked for the FP....they use relays and yes the can go bad too, so the relay could be the culprit...or part of the issue

YES get the battery up to full charge.

before I'd get too far, I'd test the TFI, at least 3-4 times.
starting after it cools down...is classic TFI or ignition module failure symtoms

im pretty sure its not the module because the vehicle is getting spark i sent him out to go get a new relay hoping that is it but we will soon see. when you turn the key you cant hear the fuel pumps kick in either.

do you have power before the relay?

got to look at it today and turns out there was a ground wire from the battery to somewhere that had come unplugged plugged it in and started crazy stupid little things. thanks for the ideas and help though
