I was driving home the other day coming from my mothers house in Dandridge, to White Pine, and I happen to look at the tach, it said I was doing -500 rpm, I said to my self "great my tach is bad", well the next day I went to Pull-a-Part in Knoxville and bought the cluster for 3 dollars out of another 88, I got home took the old cluster out and the needle fell against the plastic shield, "well" I said "guess I just need to put the needle back on", BUT I went ahead and hooked the other cluster to see if the fuel gauge would work, nope still didn't work, I started the truck up and this tach said I was idling at 2500 rpm, and I know that wasn't right, so I took mine apart to put the needle back on the little plastic thing on the back was a touch broken to where the needle would freewheel around the shaft, and the other cluster was the same problem, tab was cracked.
Well, I go and get some very fine wire, wrap it around the needle housing and then super glue the wire tightly in place, the push the whole thing back in place to show 0 rpm when the key is on and the engine was off.
works great, so I wasted about 8 dollars in gas, and 3 dollars for a cluster I don't need.
Oh well what a nice day it was anyway. A bad day working on my truck is still better then a good day at work.
