I have a 99 ranger 4x4 automatic, everything shifts smooth and does great when first started. After the truck is warmed up and shifts from first to second it takes forever to get to second? It sounds stupid but it acts like it doesnt know what to do? I dont know if changing transmission fluid and flushing the system would help?

the 5r55e transmissions are known to have valve body gasket blow outs. causing "Shift flare" when between gears the rpms jump before the next gear engages. The EPC solenoid may also back away from the valve body due to a broken bracket... there are many possibly reasons - I think you are on the right track by starting out with a fluid/filter change. that way you can see if you have any carnage at the bottom of the pan.
