So the problem in my 92 is getting worse and I need some help trying to diagnose what's causing this problem.

Here's the skinny. ONLY during RIGHT turns, the steering wheel locks up and I have to yank it to get it back on center. and now it's getting worse and I can hear/feel something rubbing/grinding.

at first I thought it was just the gearbox going out but now I have no idea...

I did have a bad power steering hose for about a week but I tried to just keep pouring fluid in when it started getting low to save the pump. any thoughts on what to look for? did just a quick look and shook the truck, didn't see anything too loose, but I could've missed something?

Thanks guys!

Check ball joints, tie rod ends, drag link. Lube everything that has a fitting.

replaced the wheel bearings. I'll check the ball joints and tie rods.

But why would it do this in right turns only? that's what has me confused...

There's a lot of strange forces at work in the steering and suspension mechanisms. A swivel type joint- your ball joints and tie rod joints- could have a rough spot that becomes a factor only when things are turned a certain way.

If you've already done wheel bearings, then you have probably already checked the obvious things like a dragging brake, an underinflated tire, and alignment issues.

There could be something going on with the steering gearbox, some binding that only happens when turned to the right.

Take it to a frame and axel and get a safety inspection they have to tell you what is wrong replace the bad parts and have them align it. The safety inspection is free here in WA.

Since it only happens in one direction and locks up hard, I'd suspect a steering gear issue.

it's 2wd, and i still haven't figured it out. but it's getting worse, and I think it might make it easier to diagnose.

First off, I have shift steer, not bump steer, meaning when I shift, typically from first to second, the steering jumps to the right.

Under hard acceleration, like when getting on the freeway with a short onramp, it locks up to where it won't go right at all without yanking HARD. but it will go left just fine.

Also on a right turn, especially slightly quicker ones I can feel almost a rubbing of something, and it feels like it's coming from the left wheel.

I just looked under it, and i couldn't find anything that was loose, but it was also on the ground, not jacked up.

Is the right tie rod bent back, catching on the TIB mount? Watch the tie rods while someone turns it to the right to see if something is catching. It could be in the steering box as well. It could also be something catching the steering shaft as well but, that would most likely effect both directions.
