plane and simple. i was undoing my bellhouseing bolts on my truggy to yank the trans. i was undoing the bolt by the dipstick and my ratchet got stuck...i cant get it off, i cant get the ratchet switch directions beacuse its wedged in there inbetween the dipstick. any ideas on how to get it off?

Hi, can you get a floor jack under the truck? if so try lifting up a tiny bit on the back of the tranny, this might give you a bit of slack in the wedge point.

I was gonna say start with a torch and work up from there... :icon_twisted:

But seriously, jacking/yanking/banging/shimmying/etc have all been used to try to create enough play for something like that to come loose.

is this a question or has all that been tried? I am lost on your responce....

if all the above has been tried, is the drive shaft still attatched? and the tranny still on the cross member? can you back off the motor mount bolts enough to slack off the motor and get a bit more play?

can you take a pic so we can see better? is it stuck against the firewall?

any update on progress?

I'm not the OP, and I wrote that before the coffee kicked in, lol, I ment that those things usually work for me when that happens

Its wedged against the k memeber if its the dipstick bolt. Take a pair of vice grips is you can get them in tere and put them on the socket itself to turnt he bolt back in and create enough slack to get the wratchet off. If this dont work just bang it off with a hammer and take the bolt to the store to find a match if it bends. Other wise I believe we dont have solid motor mounts, use a pry bar to wedge the engine away from the k member jsut a little. The suggestion about removing the tranny crossmember moutns and driveshaft were awesome.

Who suggested that...? Angie? are you a girl? Did that really come from a girl????

LOL j/k chics are awesome mechanics, they come up with some really interesting viewpoitns to problems.

Who was it that said "I'm not afraid to beat on my junk" ???

Get a hammer!

When I get stuck and can't figure out how to get something in or out, I don't go call one the guys from the shop, I get the wife. She is closer and usually has better ideas.

Funny how we are having a blast in this post tearing up someone elses poor stuck wrench and here the OP hasn't shown back up to say if the dynamite has helped....

any updates?

PS. Angie made this account a couple years back and I have hi-jacked it from her... sorry to let you guys down... :icon_rofl: however, when I am in doubt about something I ask her because as stated above....

sorry everyone alots been goin on. umm im going to retry the jack, i cant get a hammer in there its to tight of a area. the ratchet is one of those bluepoint ones were in order to change direction you have to take it off and flip it over.

im going to jack the trans up and and wiggle. hopefully i cant get the bastage out

Use the vice-grip idea. It should spin because now you're moving it in the direction of the ratchet, not the grab.

I hate those gearless ratchets for exactly that reason, they are nice in spots that don't have a lot of swing room because they grab so fast, but if you have to reverse direction in a tight spot it can be nearly impossible.

I'm also a bit dyslexic so they don't help me figure out the direction to easy.

wiggling and jiggling and touching it in all the right places normally gets stuff off for me
