i have a ranger danger 86 2.9 4x4 and i took her swimming last summer and locked up the motor. i have completely rebuilt her. she starts and runs but has no power at all. after about 5 min of running time it starts to smoke white smoke. i pulled some codes and all it says is its the o2 sensor. while she swam i belive the computer got wet. anyways i have an o2 sensor outa a 88 3.0 and was wondering if it would work. and how can i tell if the computer is no good. i am also thinking the heads cracked. i replaced the valve seals while i was doing that i notised that there was air coming outa the intake and the exhaust. any help would help. would a 88 3.0 computer work for my 2.9?

thanks

i didnt think so but always worth a try. what about the o2 sensor.

Doubt very much weather the plug connectors would even be the same...these are 2 very different engines with different engine management systems. The 3.0 will very likely have 3-4 wires going to the O2 sensor, + may have more than one O2 sensor (depending on the vintage).... and the 2.9 will have one sensor with 2-3 wires going to it . Even if you get it jerry-rigged in, it probablly won't send information in the correct frequency to be recogizable to your 2.9 engine computer. Then it the engine computer would be such funk that you'd have more runnability issues.

If (and that is a Big IF), part Numbers can be matched up to the same for either one and plug in connections are the same and threads are the same...you certainly can try it....just don't be suprised if it don't work. PLay it safe and get the O2 sensor correct for your engine.
