I have a 1993 ford ranger xl manual and i took it to get smogged and i failed the fuel evaporated control functional, i thought it was a visual fail because my heat shield was rattling on my caddy convertor, after i fixed that i went back and i still failed... :( the guy says theres an exhaust leak somewhere.. i dont hear anything and i dont see anything leaking under my truck any ideas on where i should start and any things i should know about

thanks in advanced,

steve

Why would the inspector connect a evaporative fuel system problem to the exhaust system??? Problems in the evaporative system could be as simple as a bad vacuum hose, or the purge control solenoid. It has nothing to do with the exhaust. What was the code? shady

they just said i failed didnt really give me any information :( just that my pressure wasnt right in my fuel system etc

we're going to need more information.

your fuel system, evaporative emissions controls, and exhaust systems are all totally separate from one another. we need to know which one is causing problems.
