85 bronco II, 2.8 V-6, A4LD transmission...bone stock...I turn the key to start the engine...it engages the flex plate, but the engine does not turn...any ideas...help!

I just went thru the same thing. Most likely the flex plate is broken. You will probably need a new adapter that bolts to the crankshaft as well. A local transmission guy has seen a lot of them break and believes it is caused by the snout on the torque converter being too short and thereby slipping out of the adapter. That's why I welded a washer to the end of my converter so it goes into the adapter farther. I'm sure most guys here will tell you to swap in a manual transmission.

I hope that is all it is...here's to hoping! Thanks for the reply! Why the manual trans though?

The auto tranny is viewed as weak. The 5speeds are much less prone to problems. The auto tranny out of an explorer is better... Same tranny with stronger internals to handle the 4.0l engine
