help: wont stay running.

its a 2000 3.0 5speed. when i turn the key it starts right up runs for a few seconds then dies agian.
i know the fuel pump is working, i can hear it priming.
i hooked up our obd2 scanner and it is telling me there are no codes on the truck.
I just dont understand why i drove it last night at 12 and then tried to leave at 7 in the mourning and it wont start.
anyone have any ideas?
 
When's the last time the fuel filter was changed? Also have you tried revving it in those first few seconds to see if it stays running?
 
watch the dash after you start it. does the "theft" light come on or flash?

when the truck dies, is there any sputtering or rough running? or does it just shut off?
 
i have tried giving it gas to keep it running and it dies anyways. the theft light comes on while its running and goes out right when it dies, then only the cel and battery light are on. It runs realy smooth, and doesnt chug when it dies it just slowly reduces rpm until it dies.
 
heh, now i cant remember how long the theft light is supposed to stay on. if you have another key for the truck, i would try that.

otherwise your going to need some tools for diagnosis. we need to know what the fuel pressure is doing when the truck dies.
 
it has to be a fuel issue. it wont run with the other key either and if i prime it a few times before starting it runs longer.
 
if the regulator is the round piece on the drivers side of the motor then no it doesnt. is it the bigger round piece on the drivers side or the smaller round piece on the passanger side fuel rail?
 
should be the smaller round peice on the passenger side (at least it is on my gen3). mounted right on the fuel rail.
 
it shouldnt be a pain...its right on top of the motor on the passenger side (the intake covers the drivers side).
 
ok i got it off bud didnt see/smell any fuel so i take it that mean is somewhere before the fuel rails where the gas is getting cut off?
 
could be a fuel filter, like kelly suggested. but it could also be electrical.

a fuel pressure reading would be really helpful right about now...
 
you need a fuel pressure guage which you can attach to the shrader valve on the fuel rail.
