Help with TK 4 speed.

I have a 1983 4x4 with a 2.3 and a Toyo Koygo 4 speed manual. This thing is extremely noisy in 1-3 gears, scary loud actually. It was low on oil (about a quart) but after filling it up it made no difference. Plus the transmission leaks pretty bad.

Has anybody rebuilt this tranny before? If so how difficult it is? Do I have any options for doing a direct swap to something better? Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!

it is easier and cheaper to find another tk.
the drive shafts fit, and the wrecking yard
trannys have fewer miles.

wow, thats a long way from me. just shipping would probably be over $100.

Not to mention a B2 only came with the v6 and it wouldn't fit... wait maybe it would...

I rebuilt my TK5 like 2 years ago... got a rebuild kit with literally everything but the gears, new bearings, gaskets, ect... it was only like 200 bucks. And the rebuild was simple just as long as you have a bearing press avalible.

I found a rebuild kit that has synchros , bearings and seals for $140. You need the press for getting the bearings off I am assuming?

And back on, it is imperitive that they go in straight and with no stress to a particular area of the bearing or it could mess it up.
