Hi, I have a 1997 Ranger extended cab, 2wd with a 4.0 engine and auto trans, power windows and door locks. The reason I am here is because I tried to install the sony cd player that was previously installed in my 1996 ranger short cab with 2.3 engine, m5od, manual everything. The radio installed into the 96 ranger with no problems, but when I went to install in into the 97 model one of the plugs coming out of the dash was different. I went back and bought a wiring kit for a ranger with the premium sound system, which fit the different plug, but no sound comes from the speakers now. When I broke out the shop manual, i noticed the wires coming from the plug were all different colors than whats shown in the manual or any wiring diagram i can find online. I can tell by looking that everything in the dash is all stock and never been messed with, any idea why my wires are different colors?

I am also having this problem! I have the wiring kit plugged in but no sound comes from my speakers. Does anyone know why I cant get sound?

do you have the remote turn on leads connected?

best way for me: get a diagram for knowing the wire for each thing(speakers, gnd, 12v switch, 12v for memory) and splice and connect with the radio unit wires directly

you have to bypass the factory premium sound amp. i just ran new speaker wire from the head unit to the door speakers
