I am in the middle of a M50D and 4.0L flywheel swap in my 87 4x4, guess I made a mistake in getting a 96 slave. the plug is gold on cus my line is black and will not fit in to it.
now what? do I have to rip everything part to get a diffrent year slave?
i was going off the tech lib write up but it did not talk about the slave.
oh I did find out that a 97 4.0L flywheel will not it since its a 8 bolt and the 96 is a 6 bolt at least thats what napa sells.

the slaves all match except for the connection.

Options:
1. Take it back apart and change the slave
2. The line is attached to the master with a roll pin. You can punch out the roll pin and change just the line.
3. Change the master and line assembly. I prefer this method because they usually come pre-bled, and the cylinder is much easier to install if the pedal rod isn't already installed on the plunger.

The line from a 1993-up Ranger or Explorer can be swapped onto
your exsisting master cylinder requiring only re-bleeding the system.

Which master cylinder do you have?

If you are running the original 1985-92 master cylinder
(yes, across this year range they are all the same)
and combining it with a 1993-current slave cylinder this
combination results in a VERY fast acting clutch, because
the early master cylinder has a larger bore diameter designed
to work with the '85-87 and '88-92 master cylinders.

This isn't a "Bad" setup, this is the combination I run myself.
It's main advantage is it takes very little pedal motion to
release the clutch. but you pay a price in fine control
unless you have the left foot skill to match it

I have the 87 master.

I did get it all together I found out if i did some grinding on the black connector it would fit in to the slave. its not leaking so I hope that's a good sign.
I am abit concerned that seems to have abit more slip when getting going than the old clutch, which seemed to bit right in.
I have a few more bugs to work out like why my pedal seems to have more slack than it used too, but its not squishy feeling.
and man you have to love that 4.0 starter, its can really crank the 2.9 over.
Thanks for ever ones help
