I just rebuilt and installed the original 2.9.

While attempting the initial startup and break in I got code 95 "fuel pump circuit open – EEC processor to motor ground".
I haven't been able to find anything specific on how to fix this issue or problems it would cause.

Any help would be awesome. Thanks!

As with several OBD1 codes they can have multiple "meanings"

95
(O) Fuel pump: open, bad ground or always on

OR

(M) Possible bad fuel pump ground or open between fuel pump and pin 8 at PCM (Fuel Pump Monitor signal)

Fuel pump might not work if its the first "meaning"

If fuel pump is working then its the 2nd "meaning"

This code has to do with the Fuel Pump power(12v) monitor, for the 12v coming from fuel pump relay in engine bay

Pin 8 on the computer(PCM) is connected to inertia switch in the cab
If inertia switch has been by-passed then that would most likely be the reason for the code, computer doesn't "see" 12volts on pin 8 when fuel pump relay has been activated

Before we continue
Is the fuel pump coming on?
If so does it come on, with key on, and stay on even if engine is not running?

Hi Ron, thanks so much for your quick reply. Too quick, because I came back on to delete the post!
I was the inertia switch. I had pulled the connector to depressurize the fuel rail when I pulled the engine out for a rebuild.

When I tried starting the engine after the rebuild the inertia switch was still disconnected. I reconnected it but I didn’t reset the computer, so subsequently I thought it was a new issue!

Your response shows why that worked.

I appreciate the support. I only found that connection based on other forum searches. I’m so glad this forum is still alive and well!

thanks again! Cheers
