Hi all,

Not sure the correct forum for this so I'll try here. My Airbag light is sometimes flashing and sometimes not at all. Sometimes it stays on constant and sometimes don't come on at all. I know its flashing me a code, but I'm not sure what it means. Could anyone explain to me what to look for with the light as far as determining the code?

2000 Ranger 3.0 Ext. cab auto tranny.

Thanks for any help at all!

When you turn on your key it goes into a self test mode. It will fash a specific number of times, pause then flash again. Your number of flashes is the code. You will get something like 2 flashes then 7 flashes, pause then 2 flashes then 7 flashes...code 27. Since it is intermittent its probably something like the seat belt connection under the seat.

OK I'll check that out, thank you for your help!:icon_cheers:

Awesome. I was just about to post a thread having the same problem. I will check this out using your advise too. Thanks.

Yep, I got a code 27. What exactly does that mean? I'll check the seatbelt thing as soon as I get a chance.

Just did a little more research and some folks have reported that the 27 error code has something to do with the indicator light going out on the passenger side airbag shut off module. I noticed the light on mine was on and off as well, just didn't connect the two.

The fix I read about indicated purchasing a LED from Radio Shack (Part# 272-1099) and soldering it to the burnt out LED in the passenger side airbag shut off module. Several folks on that particular forum did this repair successfully. I will be giving it a shot this weekend and will let all know if I have a truck left when finished.

More importantly, it was said that while the problem exists, the airbags are disabled. But that is just what I read YMMV.

Glad you found your problem and good luck with the repair.
