Hi everyone,
I am part of a missions team building an orphanage in Honduras (http://www.promisehome.org). The reason for my post is we have a 2000 Ford Ranger 4X4, turbodiesel, 2500c.c., brazilian make. I am looking to get advice on getting it running. I did some work on it in March and head back in four weeks. I am mechanincally inclined and have built motors but diesel is not my usual world. That is my sticking point right now in diagnosing the issue.
Log of issues/symptoms:
- It overheated earlier in the year due to a bad water pump gasket; water leaked out and someone drove it until it died. I replaced the gasket during my last visit and there are no visible leaks.
- Now that the water leak has been resolved, it wont start. It appears/sounds like it wants too. When cranking it, you can tell it wants to fire and even sounds and feels like one or more cylinders ignite but it just wont go overall. I have checked fuel lines for fuel. When replacing the water pump gasket, none of the water had oil (indicating internal failure). I have not run a compression test yet (planned in June). The oil appears to be ok.
I know this is not a ton to go by however I am hoping maybe I could solicit some ideas. I am even thinking that due to how computerized this vehicle is, maybe its something to do with the ECM. I am looking for any thougts, ideas, feedback and suggestions you could provide.
We really want to get this running as the orphanage property is 140+ acres and is on a mountain side. This truck would be a HUGE time saver and leg saver for the work the local team and mission team is doing.
Again, this is a diesel and a Brazillian made model. I can email a few pics but there is nothing of the motor iteslf. I do have the VIN too if that helps in researching.
Thanks in advance!
