ok im ready to wire the v8 in my 85 ranger.. im not going to go into what i have done to the wiring cuz it will just confuse me. what i did didnt work so im starting over ..i will say, its an older duraspark system and i do have the pigtail that goes from the dizzy to the ignition module hooked up.. from there i dont have a clue..bolting the motor/tranny was easy but wiring , i just draw a blank.so please take me from the 2wire plug from the module to where ever i need to go and from the coil to where ever i need to go and the alternator to where ever i need to go..

Find a key on hot from the ignition that goes to the coil and the module red wire and for simple start circuit run a wire from the start solenoid the little start wire with the 90 degree connector back to the white wire on the module It is that simple. Are you using the stock coil if so you dont need a ballast resistor for power to the coil.

For the guages and alternator take the computer harness from the 8 wire connector and remove the sheathing and tape back to the alternator keep the sender wires and alternator wires connected the rest goes away you should only need to cut a couple of wires and one is hot to the computer that you can for the module and cut any wires long enough so you can possibly use them.

i am using a stock coil from the v8..im not using anything from the v6 i had

im not using the factory gauges in the dash..im using aftermarket..round coil

Then all you need is the alternator and coil wires does your alternator have the internal or external reg.

I`m pretty sure you have the external regulator and the wire are already there you may need to swap the regulator on the drivers side near the door hinge but the wires/plug should be the same. I hope you didnt hack the computer harness out on that end just strip the harness from the 8 wire rectangular plug by the coil back to the alternator plugs I`m guessing the regulator will work for that alternator.

The big battery wire is independent from the harness for the alternator blk/org and the other two are wht/blk and org/lt blu and pretty sure the wht/blk is not used. The first thing you need to do when you get it running is check the charging system is working correct. You dont want over 14.8 volts at 1500 rpm or you will burn something up.

im going out and take pics of what i cut...nothing was cut on the driver side, i just unpluged what i needed to get the 2.8 out..i only cut the wod of wires that went down through the firewall on the passenger side..i did cut every wire that was tied to the old carb and i guess i cut the alternator wires

here are the pics of what i got to work with..this is how i found it after i pulled the 2.8 and wiring harrness
