I'm new to the forum, but i have been reading it since i bought my truck 4 years ago. First off, this website is amazing and its helped me many times. Second, I have always wanted to put a v8 in my ranger, long story short, I came across a 1996 302 5.0 and i'm in the process of taking it out of the donor truck. I'm confused as to where the ranger wiring and the new wiring meet up. I pulled all the wiring out of the engine bay of the donor, but do i follow the other half into the cab? I noticed that everything is pretty much wired together so what about head lights and all that? since its all wired together? Do i splice wires or get adapter? Kinda lost here. Thanks and sorry for the novel.

Your engine wiring all starts/stops at the 42 pin connector near the brake booster/rear of engine.

Teddy, you have a PM...Also, he may have issues, if his truck he is doing the V8 swap on is the 2000 in his info, with his PATS...what donor did you get your motor out of??

RangerSVT, good catch on that year. Be a lot easier with the Explorer plug in wiring. All that is needed is the proper year Explorer harness and computer - basically, few other things but minor.
Stinky, welcome to a great site! Where abouts in Ill Annoys?

So my ranger harness in the firewall SHOULD match up with the donor engine harness?By the way, the donor is a 96 f150 4wd automatic. I'm just getting all this cleared up because the donor truck will be getting scrapped soon and then it's to late to go back for more parts. Also i have done my home work on the PATS and im just goin to have it reprogrammed But just incase somthing goes wrong, i will be getting the ignition and the door locks from the donor. I already have the PCM but im just looking for where my harness will match with the v8 harness. MAC i am located in East Peoria. Once again, thanks guys

Be sure and grab the steering column out of the donor, as that is where your PATS is located, as well as the GEM module, on rangers its right behind the radio on the left side, not sure on F series trucks, but you will see what it looks like...as far as the harness goes, the donor should have a similar if not the same 42 pin plug Teddy mentioned, right at the fire wall just inside the brake booster, grab the ECU and the harness hooked to it, and lay it on the motor, then unplug the 42 pin connector near the booster, the fuel lines, the vacuum lines, battery starter lines, engine ground strap, and exhaust, and pull the motor. That should be all of your electrical you will need to pull, providing your wiring has the same plugs...The only thing now you might have to do is some repinning of the V8 harness plug to match the ranger circuits...Be sure and grab the EVTMs from both vehicles as this will be of great benefit to you later....

I was referring only to the Ranger connector.
Definitely, get an EVTM for both vehicles. That old Harwood manual will also help with any questions on the location of the Ranger circuits.

rangersvt, do i need the entire steering column or just the ignition?

If you pull the plastics off, you will see the pats module sensor just to the outside of the ignition switch lock, you will need this, the ignition lock, as well as the module that is connected to the sensor...
