I have a 3.0L 96 Ford Ranger w/ 5 Speed transmission. Clutch replaced @ around ~125K Mi, now ~160K Mi (so less than 40K Mi on it). Recently I have noticed that when in gear and moving, I can hear a rubbing sound (not grinding, but like metal rubbing on metal). When I push the clutch in - or when I am at a stop - the sound goes away.

Anyone have this problem before? I was thinking throwout bearing, but that would cause noise when clutch is in, and not out - so that eliminates that possibility, right?

Do you ride the clutch? Was there a little grease put on the front of the T/o bearing during assembly?
