Been looking into getting another ranger and doing a SAS.
Looking at peoples builds, they are all different and confused the hell out of me.
What exactly do I need at a minimum to do it?
I'm looking to run 35'' tires with lots of travel and no rubbing.
I want this done as cheap as I can but safe.
I can weld but don't have machines to fabricate, need some type of kit.

Dana30HP or Dana44 front ?
Ford 8.8 rear
Front leafs or coils / shocks
Rear Leafs / shocks
Regear front/rear
Steering parts?

Need a little clearing up on whats needed, thanks.

2000
2.5l manual
DD/Trail rig
I won't be so easy on it. So I'm thinking D30 isn't strong enough for beating 35's.

Are you staying with the 4 banger, or planning a motor swap?? Is it 2wd or 4wd?? I'd go with an EB 44, but you will also need a gearbox...btw, welcome to TRS :icon_thumby:

Probably stick with the engine in it for now.
It's 4wd.
Besides gearbox what steering components do I need?
What leafs etc do I get to fit?

You can go to ruffstuff and get the steering kit, which will consist of a draglink (gearbox to steering knuckle) and steering linkage (knuckle to knuckle)

Ok thanks.

So if I want a d44 from EB do I use the EB steering box/linkage/suspension ?

Yep, thats what you need. Bu tif you can't find one cheap enough, you can build one...get a FW 44, and cut it down, give bronco graveyard a call for a complete set of EB shafts ($295 with joints) and your good to go...

Is this something custom? Seems I recall '97 was the last year any 4-cyl 4WD was offered... :icon_confused:

Yes, skip the D30 if you plan to actually use it offroad. The EB D44 is somewhat better, though not with it's OE shafts (plan on an upgrade to aftermarket shafts having the larger u-joints).
Better still would be to get a F-150 HP D44 and narrow it down 6". You'll only need a passengerside inner EB shaft if you do it right (an aftermarket EB shaft is needed to match the u-joint with the F-150 outer shaft).
'80s Jeep Wagoneer axles are another option (but like the EB axle, are LP)

EB steering can be used, but is a bit weak. Better to go with a custom-made linkage on it.

I have a FJ60 box forsale if your interested. $130 shipped anywhere in the lower 48.
