Yes, it will work, but "racing tach" doesn't really mean anything wiring wise.
You got a brand and model number?

Tan/yellow stripe wire, Pin48 on the PCM(computer) will have the tach signal.

It should be in the instrument wiring connector whether you have a tach in the dash now or not.
