Need help with electrical issues on a 5.0 swap
Hello all!

Needing some help please.

I am partway through a 5.0 swap from a 98 Exp to my 96 Ranger.

I have replaced the engine bay harness with the harness from the Exp, I have the 5.0 harness on the engine, I have replaced the Ranger dash harness with the Exp dash harness.

I have gotten my hands on the pin outs of the two dash harness connectors ( Expo and Ranger) a lot of things are in the right places others are not and will have to be moved.

Right now I do not have stop, tail, or turn signals. The cargo lamp cannot be turned off. The fuel pump doesn't run.

Thanks for any assistance,

Dean Kelly

Been a long time since my last post. I have managed to graft the required wiring from the expo into the ranger harness. The starting circuit and the 175 amp fuse are now mounted to fender, the charging circuit is wired in. The motor turns over now. Should have some film of it starting soon.

Can't wait to see the results!

Hello again!
I have made it past most of wiring and am now able to drive my ranger daily again. Magnaflow sounds real good!

I still have three issues to deal with, evap cannister purge throwing a check engine light, airbag malfunction light, and the speed control lamp staying on and not working.

I think the evap purge is going to take some pin swapping on the engine connector because the PCM from the two different engines sent and received the signals at different pins.

As for the airbag, i am going to have to fix it the hard way, multimeter and step by step procedures for fault isolation. For all i know the internal wiring of the clockspring in the steering column is totally different. It may help with the speed control too.

If that doesn't work i may need a new control unit for the speed control.

Still need to have AC lines made and need to swap out some non functioning guages.
