I have an '89 Ranger 2.3 and the exhaust manifold is cracked badly. The studs are corroded and will surely snap if I try to move them. I plan to cut off the stud heads and remove the manifold. Then remove the studs with penetrating oil and vise grips.
What size replacement studs do I need? Where can I get them?

thank you for any help

Thread is M10x1.50. Most parts stores actually sell the direct replacement parts. Felpro and Dorman make exhaust manifold studs for almost everything.

the studs holding the manifold to the head?
or the exhaust pipe to the manifold?

use heat for extraction of the bolts from head get them red and work them back and forth.. put antisieze on new ones

Stop by the store and buy a fresh bucket of cuss words. You're gonna use them.

If your head is cast iron, not aluminum, and a stud breaks flush with the head surface there are knowledgeable people out there (mostly old timers) who can heat what's left of the stud with a gas torch & blow out the molten steel without ruining the threads in the head. I've seen it done.

Quit stealing my shtick or you're out of the 6!
You know that saying "There's one in every crowd."?

Well, move over. This crowd has a bunch of them.

I’ve had decent luck with putting an impact on them, but usually at least one snaps around here. Penetrating oil and vice grips get you a little beyond nowhere. Lots of heat and vice grips usually get you where you need. It’s a really annoying thing. Dorman makes a bunch of stuff and you can always source hardware from somewhere. I have taken to replacing whatever bolts I can with stainless, just so I can take it apart again because with my record, I’ll have to take it apart again. Something always goes wrong, lol. I’ve only yanked motors about 5 times on my choptop so far and it has to come out again
