Hi! I'm Ken Tommy from Norway. I'm new at this forum.
My Ranger broke down while I was driving.
It wouldn't start again! But the day after it did.
And the problem started again after a few days.
Got it to a garage/shop and got the codes:
P1309 Misfire monitor mode disabled.
P1000 Powertrain Control Module ROM error.
The engine is running for now! The CEL light is not on.
I have driven it for maybe 2 hours after I reconnected the minus at the battery. It where off for about 10 Minutes

What do I have to do? I apriciate all the help I can get!
Sorry if the english is a little bad.

It's a Ranger 2.5 L4. 1998 model.

(Numbers on PCM)

Thanks for all answers!

This should answer all of your questions, let me know if you need more info or if this doesnt make sense to you! You may want to invest in a cheap OBDII reader.

It is not necessary to clear DTC P1000 from the PCM by driving the vehicle unless it is requested by the customer to pass an inspection/maintenance test.

Inform the customer of the need for additional driving when required to pass an inspection/maintenance test.

Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P1000 indicates that not all of the On Board Diagnostic II (OBD II) monitors have completed. In some states, this DTC must be cleared to pass an inspection/maintenance test. The customer should be informed that the law specifies additional city and highway driving must be done to complete the check of the On Board Diagnostic system. This additional driving must occur before the vehicle is tested at the inspection/maintenance station. The amount of driving required varies with individual driving patterns. To complete this requirement in the shortest amount of time, refer to Drive Cycles.

The only way a DTC P1000 can be removed from memory is when all the OBD II monitors have successfully completed.

DTC P1000 is set by the PCM with any of the following conditions:

•The vehicle is new from the factory and has not yet completed an OBD II Drive Cycle.
•The battery or PCM has been disconnected.
•An OBD II monitor failure had occurred before completion of an OBD II Drive Cycle.
•The PCM DTCs have been cleared with a scan tool as part of a repair process.
DTC P1000 cannot be cleared from the PCM when:

•The vehicle has a PTO and the circuit is shorted to VPWR or B+ or the PTO is on during testing.

And this is for the P1309 code.

About the P1000 code?
It's very hard to get thid OBDII reader in this country..
Is there any chance that the code will disapear by itself if try out different driving styles? Maybe the mechanic should connect the diagnose equipment while drivng? I don't have any diagnose equipment myself,so I let the mechanics do it :)

And about the P1309 code.
Maybe there is a broken cam sensor or something that makes the car acting like it does? Maybe this is why the PCM doesn't will relearn the OBD monitors you where talking about?
And if I disconnect the PCM? Do i have to go to a Ford Dealer or something to program it again? Or can i just plug it in?
I didn't understand that stuff about burst with the starter?:p Do you mean that I should "almost" start it?

You get a lot og questions her now:p Sorry about that, but it sounds that you know what you are talking about :)

Thanks for replying!:D

I have a 2000 ford ranger 3.0 v6 with cel on also P1309. I took it to ford and they replace the Camshaft Position Sensor & Syncronizer it cost 500.00. By the time i got back home the CEL came back on. Went to autozone and it is still the same code P1309. i don't know what to do. If you fix the problem let me know.

I maybe think my knock sensor is broken.
i have replaced camshaft sensor and crankshaft sensor. but still not working!
