Help need to get this fixed

I went out and bought a 88 ranger 2.9l 4x4 but the trans needs to be rebuilt I believe it's the Toyo kogo I need to find a rebuilt kit for it anybody know where I can find one any help would be great thanks

Dump the boat anchor that Ford put in tha truck and find you an M5OD-R1 from behind a 4.0. Roughly the same length and a fairly simple swap. If you did find a rebuld kit for the Toyo you would be confused by the time you opened it up.

Do the bell housings and everything else match up? And out of what year 4.0

Any year 4.0 will work that had the M5OD behind it. 2.9 and the 4.0 are the same block minus the internals and such.

What about the transfer case?

There's a 2.9L version of the M5OD that was used in some 1990 4WD trucks, might be worth trying to find one simply for the gear ratios being a bit better optimized to the higher-revving 2.9L, however it's not a real huge difference... If you can't find one, the 4.0L M5OD will serve just fine. Like was said above, externally they are exactly the same trans.
