my brake line rusted out right at the drivers side rear wheel.....I pulled all of the brake line from the connection at the fuel filter back. I am going to replace the wheels cylinders and every thing else from the connection at the fuel filter back. I went to Autozone and they were useless as usual. the bracket that holds the brake-line to the rubber hose( right rear wheel area) was rusted and while removing it I had to cut the rubber stop off. I think this is called a suspension stop but I could not find it on rockauto. I also need the 4" metal bracket that gets held on by the stop and connects the line to the rubber hose......it looks like the flare on the line that connects at the fuel filter is a Bubble flare and the other end is a double flare. is there a union fitting that I can screw into that fitting to convert it to a double flair so I can use lines with fittings on them? has anyone bought prebent lines before..........any and all help would be great!!!!

if your rear lines are rusted out its only a matter of time befor the fronts go. when mine went i replaced every line with new coated line. if you dont your just going to be chaceing bad lines for the next couple years. just my two cents.

Modelageek, check out my post, I am doing the entire brake line right now. I used poly-armour , green colored 3/16 brake lines from advance auto. I think Napa also carries them.

I replaced the brake lines from the fuel filter are back.

-I installed 2 new wheel cylinders. I had swapped in new shoes about 15k ago so I kept them

-I use the brakelines that cam e with the fittings on them and bent them appropraitly

-I repalced the rubber hose that ran off the top of the diff

-the connection at the fuel filter area is a bubble flair and the other end of the line by the rear tire is a double flare..........not one of "fords better ideas".........so I bought a line with the bubble flare on it and went to a local shop and for $10 he cut one fitting off, put the new fitting on and put a double flare on it........he had a good flaring tool....and ever..something?.........took about 10 minutes.........I plan on replacing the rest of the line up to the MC. I just did not have the time right now. the whole thing took about 6 hours of work( that including pulling the old stuff off, and 2 hours of chasing down parts. I work in a small drive way with not much room so that makes it a pain..................if you can get a GOOD flaring tool it looks very easy to do it that way but I think the good ones are at least $100. I will probably never use a flaring tool again......Autozone had a tool for rent but off course they did not have any of the parts I needed.....

Good job. What did you do with the brake line from the rear wheel rubber hose to the front ABS hydraulic unit, did you join two premade lines and just tuck in the frame like the original or just ran it outside ? I presume this is the one where you had a local shop cut and flare for you.

If I understand correctly, the flare on the hose end is double flare and the one on the ABS hydraulic unit (by the gasoline filter) is a Bubble flare. Is that a metric 12-1.0 fitting if you can recall ? Thanks

I ran the line inside the frame. yes the flare that connects at the rubber hose is a regular double flare. my RABS hydraulic unit is on the drivers side fender. there was a connection down by the fuel filter. I did not YET replace that line. I only replaced from the connection by the fuel filter on back. I used 75 inches of line for that. I bought 2 40' preflared lines. 1 a double flare and 1 a bubble flare. I took the bubble flare one to the mechanic and had him cut off one end and put on a double flare($10). I also had him cut off about 6". I then connected the 2 and installed. all my fittings were M10, 1.0.........I have the smaller 9" drums

Thanks for the idea. It is the little details that adds time to the project. I might submit a hydraulic fitting diagram like they do in aviation industry to help out people like us in the future.

I think around mid-90's, the ranger flatform became 4 wheel ABS, where the module is located on the driver side instead of under the left frame rail.
