Help! Lost newbie

Hi all new to this forum. I recently purchased a bone stock 94 ranger xlt 4x4 4.0 manual trans. No rust solid frame . Bought for my son for his first car when he hits 16 in two years...lol. The truc has 201000 on it. Motor runs great. Has a clutch issue very soft won't go into gear. Needs bleeding I think. I am in need of advise. I have about 3500-4000 to spend. Would like to do a 302 engine and tranny swap.(forgot to mention 4x4 doesn't work. Light goes on but doesn't engage) I would like to build a very dependable truck and really could use your help and advise on parts engine drivetrain suggestions etc.

Get you a 96-97 5.0 explorer preferably a running truck, but can be wrecked. This setup is the tightest front engine accessory drive (FEAD) for the 5.0L pushrod engine. You'll need an oil filter relocation kit with a 90* block adapter. Stock 4.0 radiator will work, you can reuse your power steering line by straightening the steel section of the line. Wiring will be different but my SVT swap will give you great info, first post...
