Today my uncle WAS helping me fix my truck. awhile back we put a locker in it. And the other day I broke axle shaft. And we could not get it out. With out taking the gears out.
Now he is mad at me cause I asked him to hurry up, since I had things to do, and wanted my truck. He told me it,only take a few hours at the most. And had been working on it for like 4 hours.(for every hour he works on my truck I have to do a hour of yard work for him, so Its not like he was doing it for free)

Anyhow, we got in a fight over it.And he took off.Now my truck is in parts. And I need a axle shaft since he took that too.(wanted me to work for like 4 hours in his yard for it.saying that it cost 40 bucks, dose that sound right?)
My friend has a crashed explorer will that work? I can get that for free.

And what do I need to put my gears back in.I rember he said something about a crush spacers? The auto parts store has no clue.

And how do I put my locker back in? or should I take it out? since I think the locker broke my axle shaft. My uncle put it in for me.And charged me a 180 dollars for the locker and to put it in.. well like 10 hours of yard work.I feel like he ripped me off.

i paid 50 bucks a pop at a scrap yard for two axle shaft so yeah thats probably right. also i think you can use the explorer rear axle, but it has to be the whole axle not just the shafts...i know that some guys on this website use them with some fabrication (the spring perches and shock mounts on an explorer are not located in the same place as a ranger axle), i may be wrong but i don't see why you couldn't roll with and explorer rear suspension set up (just take every thing, the springs and axle, and put them on your ranger like it goes on the explorer) i haven't looked into this so i don't know if it will work but since its free its worth a shot. also if you don't do any hard core off roading then loose the locker...(you could sell it if it works and it will sell quick on this site.) but before you decide on anything check the tech page out it might be useful in helping you with your problem. good luck

A explorer axle shaft will not work, its 31 spline vs 28 spline and the lenth is diffrent. And it dose not sound like you have the skills to put the explorer rear end under your truck.as it will take :icon_welder:

putting gears in is not a easy task if you need to set the gears back up.

you need a crush sleave, or a soild spacer and shims to set back up the pinion depth.

The locker its self will not bust your axle shaft.Unless you drive like a idiot on the street or pushing it offroad.
I got 50 bucks for it if you want to sell it.
I'd suggest getting your uncle back on your side,or find a matching gear ranger rear end to swap in to your truck.

X2 with canyoncritter. Most places charge at least $40/hr for a side job for a mechanic or take it to the dealer for $65-$70/hr. 4 hours in the yard doesn't seem fair, I think your uncle needs to charge you more yard time or scrapping and painting his house. I suggest you get him back on your side and try to learn something from him. Sometimes patience and observation can produce some great rewards.
