Hello all. We are in the middle of putting back together my 1998 Mazda b2500 after a timing belt change and can't figure out where this wire harness plugs into. My husbands buddy was helping with the disassembly and he took that side apart, so neither of us know where it came from. We've been chasing wires for about an hour and are stumped. Any help?

That looks like a crankshaft positioning sensor plug. The sensor it plugs into will be down by the crankshaft pulley/harmonic balancer.

Thanks for your reply! That was where it goes.

On an unrelated note, when we replaced the timing belt, we had to loosen the tensioner to take pressure off the timing belt, then tighten the tensioner to hold it out of the way. Then once the timing belt is on, you loosen the tensioner again so it puts pressure on the belt, then tighten the bolts again. How does it keep pressure on the belt if you tighten the bolts? It seems to me that once the belt stretches in any way, it'll jump teeth again because the tensioner cannot self adjust to the looser belt? Is that correct? We were using a Haynes manual for instruction. Thanks

The timing belt doesn't stretch, the tensioner is meant to take out the slack of the belt and put a certain amount of preload on it then stay in that spot for the belts lifespan

Alright, thank you! I appreciate both of your responses. We hopefully will get this poor Mazda running tonight
