Alright its located on the drivers side of the engine, comes out of a harness, its green with a tiny yellow stripe and has this fuse looking device on it, could be causing my truck to run like crap. Im starting to think i have a shot fuel injector it missfires and makes a ticking sound, just changed all the plugs, fuel pressure regulator [which was bad for a LONG time], new cap and rotor, sea-foamed it

ill go take a look at mine see if i can find anything

i couldnt see it anywhere sorry man

its alright, im sure i can figure it out somehow, any chance you know what number injectors the 2.9's run?

i THINK its 14lb, but i could be wrong

Mine is the exact same thing..I have no idea where it goes though.

it's the IDM resistor, it should be roughly 22k ohms +/- 20% and yes, it could cause you to have a miss if it is shot. If it turns out to be bad the easiest way to fix it is to go to radio shack and get the highest wattage rating 22k ohm resistor you can, and SOLDER it into the wire. Just be sure to attach something metal to the lead when you solder it so you don't cook the resistor.

It might be shot, but i cant figure out where the other end goes, its cut from whatever it was attached to and i have no idea where that is on the drivers side. if i could figure out what it went to then it probably might solve my running issue

I feel kind of stupid now..Mine IS connected.

It comes out behind the ps pump, out of the wireloom. Look in the loom for another wire of the same color. Thats what needs to be attached.

Just went out and looked at mine (87 ranger) the IDM Resistor (your picture) is located just under the Power steering pump. The wires go into the wire loom there, but the resistor is sitting just outside of it. It is dark, and I didn't feel comfortable pulling wires out of the loom to find where it goes. So come inside and looked at the Haynes manual wiring diagrams.
One end of it is connected to pin 4 of the Electronic Control Assembly (ECU), and the other end goes to the TFI Module.
I believe in the older days, this would have been called your Ballast Resistor.

I would dig around inside the wire loom (Large one) right behind the PS pump and see if you can find a broken wire inside there. My guess is it is in there.

Went back and looked at your picture again... if you look in the wire loom that is shown in your photo, just about in that same spot, you should find the broken wire.

Alright cool, thanks everyone ill let you all know if i find it

well i found it, and there was another green wire right next to it that was cut too. re-attached one now i just need a new resistor

Glad to hear it. should run great now
You need 1/2 watt 22k ohm resistor. Radio shack has them for a few bucks.
