How much money do you have?? you can get a custom grind prolly from just about any of the big name brands...IF...you have enough $$$$$ to throw their way...

I dont have much money left so it dont look like i will be able to rebuild the 5.0 302 and put a new trany and transfercase. so i was looking for a cheaper solution

Camming up a 2.9 would raise the RPM at which peak torque
and Horsepower would occour...

And in general make it LESS able to push big tires.

Ford's solution was to simply increase displacement and "detune"
the engine so it would produce it's peak torque and power even lower.

As an example a 4.0 tuned to produce it's power and torque
where a 2.9 does would be making 194hp about 500rpm higher.
But it would be making slightly less torque about 200ft/lb
a 1000rpm lower than a 4.0 does.

the 5.0 s another kettle of fish alltogether.

Yeah it'll make 300ft/lb, but has to rev to 3400rpm to do it
and peak power is way up at 4900rpm.

In general for an offroad vehicle a 4.0 is a better engine.
It pulls and pulls LOW

200ft/lb of torque by 1250rpm is hard to sneer at.

5.0's are best left to 2wd trucks driven by those that find
amusement in such things

so a 4.0 is beter than a 5.0 for mud racing

Camcraft makes them, I had one custom ground at Colt Cams in Langley BC. Just because they don't list it, doesn't mean they can't make it. Best to inquire and work with a cam grinder on what you want your truck to do.
