HELP** I found this broken wire......

Started to change out the 2.3L ICM and found this broken wire. It's been like this for a while, I had to wipe the grime off the end to tell that a wire went there. LOL

Well, I found a black wire hanging out of the harness about 1-1/4" and the connector did JUST reach it. Put it back together and no fires so I think that was it.

The wire you’re pointing to looks green to me. So you took a miscellaneous broken green wire and connected it to a miscellaneous broken black wire? What made you think the wire magically changed colors exactly where it broke?

Or am I misunderstanding something?

Damn, cranky little boys need a nap? When the ONLY broken wire anywhere near the connector will reach it exactly, I'd say that should be it. The color of the corrosion was the same rusty color on both. Don't assume that I only took one step. The catch fire thing was a JOKE. Lighten up guys.

is there a noticeable difference, before and after? Or, did you just find two broken wires and connect them? they could be two totally different wires for different things. You could have just connected two things that aren't even functioning.

When I look at the picture, it looks like you're pointing to a wire with green insulation. Couldn't expand the picture big enough to get a better view than that. Believe it or not, there are people out there who would connect the only two available wires together even though they are different colors and that can mess stuff up. So the person needs to re-think that decision. That is what I was trying to help you do.

I agree, I wouldn't go splicing two different colored wires without knowing what each one went to. Just because there are not fires now doesn't mean it was correct. You could have wired it up and it blew a fuse before it could catch fire lol. If it were me I would put a wire nut on each one until I knew where they went. What year is this on? One of us might be able to help you out if we could match our trucks wiring with your picture but year and engine size will matter. I think you said it s 2.3.

While it is not wise to just hook up two differently colored wires that connection may have been made correctly. That looks like the plug for an RFI capacitor, which should be grounded, and the black wire he used was probably a ground.

Yeah its on a 93 Ranger 2.3L. I had searched for a good wiring diagram, looked at wiring harnesses for sale, etc. I did see one that showed a Radio Frequency Interference plug but didn't list the color of the wire. The outside of that green wire does look more like a shielded sheath than regular wire insulation, too. I couldn't really get a better pic.

I'll have a look at the wife's Mustang when she gets home. It's a 92 2.3L, so it should have similar component placement.

I looked at the Mustang, and that wire and plug aren't there on it.

Now, that said, the 2.3 Mustangs had a different arrangement of components than the Rangers, particularly the ignition coils are in a different spot, up even with the top of the valve cover on the passenger side. Every 2.3 Ranger I have looked at had them down under the intake, which would be consistent with the RFI capacitor being there.
