HELP!!!!! Here we go again

that engine is in pieces in a cabinent in our garage , and the block is sitting on a snowmobile dolly on the floor , and all i know is that the number 4 connecting rod bearing went to hell , and all the other rod bearings looked a little funky , but all the mains were fine

i wonder if #4 being the last one on the crank, furthest from the oil pump has anything to do with it.

sounds like an oil pressure problem alright. but like i said before, it could have been due to low oil pressure, not no oil pressure.

EDIT: scratch that, #1 is the last one on the crank.

that could possibly be , because that would make sense , since my pressure guage acted up the entire time

the reason your oil pressure gauge "acts up" is because its a switch set to about 7 PSI. because oil pressure is never 100% steady, if your producing pressure at around 7 PSI, the switch will open/close/open/close in rapid sucession, making the gauge wig out. 7 PSI is the bare minimum required to float the crank at idle. if you were getting 7 PSI driving down the road (and evidently, you were) then thats certainly enough to tear the bottom end out of the motor.

Glad i found someone with a same problem thats when i decided to do the v8swap i have a 91 ford ranger 3.0l 5speed manual got the motor to run good in netural soon as i put in gear it started to have a rough idle and my oil pressure gauge went crazy i even LOSS huge amounts of power never found out the problem since i work at a parts store they let me back and trouble shoot sensors i tried everything one day it would have power the next it wouldnt then i figured out the days it had power i could gun it and get it warmed up just seeing if it was going to act up since it was running good and it did so i could practically make it run bad; anyways i finally word of advise and i pulled the valve cover off and i had a bented to hell push rod futher noticed the valve was bad so i already had the 302 so i yanked the 3.0

the oil pump is driven by the engine. putting the truck into gear makes the idle drop by a few hundred RPM, thus the oil pressure will drop some too. if your barely above 7 PSI with it idling in nuetral, then of coarse putting it into park will cause the oil pressure gauge to drop.

i dont think the bent pushrod was your initial problem. theres no way a bent pushrod could cause intermittant issues....its not like it can unbend itself.

well my guage was dropping when i put it in gear , in park it was fine , but i havent had the problem , it works fine enough that about 20 mins ago , on my way home from the gas station , i stopped and pulled a chebby trailblazer out of a snow filled ditch

oil pressure is also related to oil temperature, it may be that you just havnt gotten it as warm as you had it before.

mechanical oil pressure gauge.
