HELP - Daily driver, engine backfires, no power HELP

Fixed.

It was a broken metal piece inside the ignition pick-up. I couldn't see it until I pulled the distributor. It looks like it was rubbing on the rotary vane.
I was going to try and just just replace the pick-up, but I broke the drive gear when trying to remove it from the shaft. At that point it I just bit the bullet and gave them another 60 for a reman distributor.
Limited Lifetime Warranty of course.
All good now, runs great, with a new tune-up.

Fuel filter isn't very expensive - it can't hurt to have a new one on there.

Something that stuck out to me was that there is black liquid coming out of the tail pipe and that you overheated the motor. Those two things combined sound like a bad head gasket/ warped head. I overheated a vehicle once and it had the exact same symptoms you described. It had a warped head. To know for sure see if its using oil or anti freeze or if there is oil in the anti freeze or vice versa. I hope this helps.

You may also have a plugged up catylitic converter because its using oil. To check this just unbolt the converter and start it up (note it will be really loud)
