Doing new upper and lower ball joints on my 96 4X4 RANGER 4.0. Both of the ball joints are loose. Right now i cant get the spindle free.

Question
Do i have to do anything at the diff to get the axle/ujoints away from the pumpkin?

No. Once you remove the spindles from both sides the drivers side shaft slides right out of the differential. The passenger side will come apart at the slip spline and come right out as well. The inner axle will stay in the differential as there is an E clip holding it in place.

Look in to getting a slide hammer with a spindle pulling attachment.

I have also been successful in using a cold chisel to separate the spindle from the knuckle.

so both sides have to be apart inorder for the drivers side axle to slide out?

No, you can pull one side apart at a time.

Alright. getting some rest, then i"ll get at it next time i have some time.

Excellent! Glad it worked out for ya
