I need to swap out my 4x4 to 2wd, i have a 03 ranger 4x4, i want to take out the front housing and driveshaft, and swap out the control arms/spindals and brakes to a 03 2wd edge. is that all there is to swapin it out?...

I was out hauling logs in a high grass field and my front end fell into a big groundhog hole, and my pass. axle shaft ripped out of the housing and messing it up...

I wanted 2wd and now since it broke it would be the best time to fix it, i just need to get it done asap soo i dont have to drive the rx7 for more then 3 days

sell it and buy a 2wd...that i know of...the 2wd frame is diffrent then the 4wd

edge frames are the same thou? im pretty sure all the torsion bar trucks share the same control arms im just not sure

Fix it. Doing that will decrease the value of your trck if you ever sell it.

i think your right. going from 4wd to 2wd should be pretty much bolt on (or off, lol). the engine crossmember may be different between 2wd to 4wd..but im not sure.

quit flaming everyone. it was suggested once that he leave the truck 4wd and obviously he doesnt want to so drop it.

The frame and engine cross members are identical on the Edge 2wd as any 4wd '98+ Ranger.

no one is flaming. Since when did you become post police?

I am curious, what is your reason for wanting a 2wd instead of a 4x4?
the way it sounds, he doesn't want to fix it properly and things converting to 2wd will be cheaper.

well a you have to do is remove the dana 35 and the driveshaft. your gonna need to keep the knuckles, no need to swap 2wd knuckles. just remove the stub shafts from the rest of the axle at the cv joint. your gonna have to keep the stub shafts in the wheel bearing assembly so they dont come apart. thats pretty much it.

why not just find a 95-01 explorer or 98+ ranger to fix what you got?

im not a wheeler nemore like the rest of u, my 4x4 is lowered haha. But thanks for clearing my questions. I might just fix the 4x4, but im pretty sure im gonna need a hole front diff housing, that might get pricey unless i can find one at the yard for cheap. But it would also need 4.10 gears! the 2wd converison seems eaiser n i wanted to lower my truck more neway

then why not just sell your truck and buy a 2wd. You can sell your 4wd, buy a 2wd, and have money left over.

Fix it first, that repair is cheap. I am sure there are plenty of guys who want to get rid of their old diffs since they went SAS.
