I have a 87 ranger that wont crank i have replaced the starter and the battery. And the solenoid all battery cables. It will click and buzz but no crank however if i hook up a jump pack it will start and run. Anyone have a sugestion what the problem could be?

Just guessing....bad starter. Remove starter and hook battery cables from battery to starter. Keep your foot on the starter as it will jump when power is applied. Hook up the +ve first then touch ground to case of starter. If it turns easily then the problem is elsewhere. You should also be able to turn the starter by hand [fingers/thumb] at the over running clutch drive [aka; bendix]. If it doesn't turn then take it to a parts store and get them to test.

I assume a "jump pack" is like an extra battery, and you are hooking it up to the battery not the solenoid.
Since you are getting a solenoid click I doubt you have a neutral safety switch or clutch switch issue.

Starter needs more amps to work.
And you have tested the starter.
The battery has at least 12.6 volts.

I would check the ground to the engine block, and ground from head to firewall.
The power for automotive electrical systems actually comes from the Ground, "+" is the return to complete the circuit, this is why Grounds are so important.

Requiring extra amperage means resistance to get power to the starter motor is higher than it should be.
The larger battery cables can be corroded inside even if rubber coating is intact, corrosion increases resistance, so more amps are needed.
Using smaller wires also increases resistance because of the amps required.
