Help 1999 4.0L Sputtering and then stall out

Yes indeed!
CEL being on means PCM has detected a problem that should be looked at.
Flashing CEL means LOOK RIGHT F'ING NOW!

Its right up there with Low oil light or low/no oil pressure, yes it still runs but from that point on damage will be occurring.

From my wife's past dealings with cars
"Engine just stopped running"
"Yes, just before that the oil light was on and then was flashing"
"Why didn't I pull over and stop?...........well if it was that important you think they would have added a bell too"
"Stupid auto makers"

V6 was toast, I haven't retrofitted a bell but was tempted

well its only happened to me once guys and what should i do first to fix...figure out what my codes are and go from there?

check the codes also the engine's vital fluids.

It is trying to tell you something, so yes, listening (check codes) is always the first step.

Sent from a Commodore 64 using a 300 baud modem

hey guys went to autozone today and the dude told me i have a fuse out cuz when he tried to read my codes the code reader wasnt even turning on for my truck so what fuse would he be talking about???

Usually the OBDII is powered on the same circuit as the cigarette lighter.

Found this

1998~2003

Check for vacuum leaks around the intake and check fuel pressure.check for any exhaust leaks around the o2 sensors too.

vacuum leaks and fuel pressure is definately where to start. sound like exactly what my truck was doing right before my fuel pump went. for the vacuum leaks use a can of carb cleaner to spray around the intake. for fuel i would start by checking the fuel filter since it probably needs to be changed any way, and follow fuel line routing to check for pinches or kinks. i dont think exhaust would cause a misfire. if youve messed with the spark plug caps then check the orientation. cylinders run front to back 123 on left 456 on right but on coil pack run 123 left 564 right for ohv's.

havent messed with the sparks plugs at all...should i think about changing them??and ill prolly just change the fuel filter cuz like you said it prolly needs to be changed

so what can i do with my exhaust cuz the flange broke off the exhaust so idk how to hook it back up do they sell the flange separate or am i screwed???

Take it to a local muffler shop, usually independents are better for this type of thing but some "chains" are OK.
They deal with this stuff daily, $25-$40 repair
They can also check your whole exhaust for free

can they hang it too cuz my hangers broke on my exhaust as well..and exhaust as always gave me trouble in the past i just cant get that down yet i mean i can do brakes and stuff like that no problem but the exhaust always gives me troubles

In my younger days I would tackle exhaust systems, then I got smart, lol.

I saw how fast a muffler shop could get out and replace rusted nuts and bolts on the exhaust system, they can do headers to tail pipe in under an hour.

Now if I need to pull headers or cats, I take car/truck to local muffler shop have them remove/replace all the nuts and bolts I will have to deal with so when I do the work(the expensive part) I am not spending 2(or 6 hours) on my back trying to cut off rusty bolts.

I tell them what I am doing so if an exhaust manifold bolt breaks they know not to spend time replacing it because I will when I do the engine work.
