My first post here, I have a 98 Ranger that dies when it idles down.. I am going crazy :icon_confused: trying to get it to run right. It is missing and I have taken it to the ford dealership three times now with no truely satifactory results. It does have 175,000 miles on it and they say it needs a head rebuilt and it would stop the missing. I suppose with the high miles I may have to put out the cash or do it myself.

I also have a little to offer here if your into offroad and fabrication, check out my PDF reference site here:

I will post my info in my profile if you want to know more about me..

See ya in the forums :icon_twisted:

I would look into things like emissions systems compontents, MAF, TPS, EGR etc. Also check your o2's If that dont work, start checking your coil packs. Pull one wire at a time form the coil pack and hold it about 1/16-1/4 inch and look for strong spark. If by chance you get shocked....that ones fine. The only way the heads could be causing a miss, is if you had a valve sticking which is highly unlikely. You can always pull your plugs one at a time and check for rad fluid in the cylinders,(with the engine off, turn by hand) but if youve never overheated again its doubtful. A haynes or chiltons will be your best friend. PM R1Hatman he can give you the link to the online chiltons library here in knoxville. Also find the threads with your specific motor size and post in there. It will get more attention.
